If you aplly with any bank for a student loan you need credit. You can propably get a government Stafford loan, which is guarantee by the government so you wont need a cogsiner. This loans are make from banks as well but you are not responsible until you graduate. You have to go to your financial aid office and fill out all the paperwork, they need to aprove it. Even if you dont qualify for a Federal Pell Grant, you can sometimes srill get a Stafford loan.
The only reputable website I Know for private loans that wont go base on your credit is myrichuncle.com I got aprove for 2300 with them and they truly did not pull my credit. I say reputable because I was send there by The Princenton Review website.
HOWEVER, before you apply for a private loan, try to get the Stafford at your school.
P.S. Under federal law, if you are a first time borrower of Stafford student loans, you must way 31 days before you get your money.
The Stafford loans limit vary depending if you are a freshman or upperclassmen. However, the difference is not much.
The limit for a freshman is 6.600 per year and some dollars, divide for two semesters, obviously you get 3.300 for semester

PLUS loans do a credit check on the parents, but since that loan is still guaranteed by the government, the approval rates are relatively high. It's definitely worth applying to see if your parents get approved. Stafford loans don't require a credit check at all.
Private student loans are generally credit based, so if you have good credit yourself, you may be able to qualify without a cosigner. Unfortunately, most students haven't yet had the chance to create a positive credit history, so they typically need cosigners.
Best idea is to speak with the financial aid office of the school you plan to attend. They should be able to guide you to the right loans.
