Do I need to take TOEFL?

Question:My native language is not english.I am taking GED next month, and later I want to go to college.Do I need to take TOEFL?I am at chicago and I checked the internet and it says that city colleges do not need TOEFL score from certain countries, and I am from one of them.what is the basic qualification to take TOEFL?Any kind of suggestions are appreciated.

Answers:
You only need to take the TOEFL if you choose not to take the SAT and/or ACT. If you are going to a community college you usually do not need to take any standardized test. Some colleges don't require you to take one of the major standardized tests - but those schools are very low in number. If you have trouble with English and/or English is your second language I would suggest that you take the TOFEL instead of the SAT and/or ACT.

Good Luck!
my wife is not from america also. they just talked and understood that she knew english good enough not to have to take the test.
There aren't any special qualifications you have to meet to take the TOEFL test.
If english is not your first language, it wouldn't hurt to take the Toefl test and submit it with your college application.
If you think that you can score well on the toefl, i strongly suggest you take it.

here is a good website for the GED and additional info
