What are the disadvantages of going to college a bit later?
Question:Like...if I were to work a bit after I graduate- which is pretty damn soon - and then apply to colleges?
Would I still be able apply for FAFSA?
Had anyone done this? And maybe regret it?
Answers:
I'm 28 and I get financial aid, so the FAFSA is not affected by how long you wait. In fact, you get more aid if you're living on your own when you apply (not with mom and dad). I don't think there's any problem with waiting, but be prepared to feel old as hell when you're sitting in class with a bunch of teenagers!
Don't listen to the idiot above me, if you want to get out and see the world a little bit you'll still be able to get into college later.
chances are you wont go, if you do you probably wont finish. Go to school before you screw up and get yourself a bunch of responsibilty that will hold you back. Yes there are exceptions to the rule. Maybe your one of them, you came this far dont get stupid now.

It's hard to do it later because, as one of your other responders said, there is a good chance you won't go back. I started college at age 22 but then I put it off for almost eight years so I could just work full time. I went back to school last year and it has been tough. I had to quit my full time job and just dive into school, so it's hard to make ends meet. My husband has also just gone back to school this year to get his Master's (after having received a Bachelor's three years ago) and it's hard for him as well.
I always advise everyone who is pondering putting off school not to. It's better to get it all done in one fell swoop and then never have to worry about it again.
The only advantage to going later in life is that I believe you understand the course material much more clearly because you are older and wiser.
I think the only think you'd miss is the Freshman partying. In fact you'll probably get more out of your education if you wait until you know what you want to do and are serious about learning. I know SO MANY people who picked a major because they had to, graduated, got jobs with their degree, hated life, and decided to go back to school for what they really loved (which they didn't know until their early 20's). Good luck!
The main issue is that the older you become, the higher chance you will have a family. When you have a family, you have to work (unless you're independtly wealthy or mooch off your wife/husband). If you try to work full time, have a family to take care of, and go to school all at the same time you will find it difficult. Very difficult.
