Suggestions to be a visiting research scholar?
Question:I'm studying biology and am interested in finding related opportunities during the winter (for a month or so between December 25th and mid-February this year). I'd love to visit a research lab in another country or even in another university to get more experience learning lab techniques or meeting professionals while they work! Networking is a big goal for these months. What would you suggest?
Answers:
I would start with your professors and/or where you research experience is with. The personal touch will bet many doors open for you. They may also know of any formal programs you can take part in (for example many schools ofter January intersession programs if your school doesn't you should be able to take advantage of another schools program - those in your area of study will have more of a handle on this. I would also talk to the folks in your study abroad program office. They will know of programs that universities over seas are offering to meet just the need you describe. DA
Doesn't biology have REU programs? Ask your adviser for some suggestions. See if there's something like an American Association of Biologists - I know physics and astronomy have similar organizations with those programs listed on their websites.
