I feel depressed about my grades... what are the chances.?

Question:No one has ever pushed me to do better in school. It wasnt until recently that I realized that school was important to my future. I live in a poor enviorment, my moms and pops are always drunk, and I really want to get the hell out of here... I dont need any B.S.

I just want some advice on how to leave. WHAT ARE THE CHANCES that I'll go to a UC if I transfer ? (GPA=2.8) If there is none... then what are my other options ?

Answers:
It is never too late to go to college! I had a 2.3 gpa in high school and made the honor roll all through college! Here's how you redeem yourself. Get yourself into a community college and get all the free help available in learning how to study, research, and write. Knock out all those classes you messed up in while in high school like algebra and geometry. Figure out what classes will transfer to your local 4 year university. A guidance counselor will help you out here. You will get in, simply because you now understand where you need to go. Pretty soon you'll have an associates and in a few more years down the road a bachelors in??.!!

What I would do is look up the colleges you want to to attend on Princeton Review. They should have GPA stats on freshman accepted. If the school requires an essay to get in, tell them your circumstances in detail. If no college will accept you, try a community college. You can transfer after one year of full-time study, as long as your GPA is good. Colleges offer work-study also, so if I were you I'd grab a roomie and move out of your parent's place.
I know what you are going through...beleive me. The easiest way to "get out of there?" Go talk to your local recruiter and consider the military. You will get job experience and the opportunity to attend college for next to nothing. Many people go to school (they only pay for books) while in the military in addition to the credit they can recieve for on the job training.

Plus, when you get out, you will have the G.I. bill. Take it from someone who is now paying out the nose for college because I missed the opportunity to enlist!
God Bless
You should apply to the UC's but also apply to your state universities such as San Jose State University. A bachelor's there is a bachelor's degree anywhere. I hope everything works out for you and you are able to better your life. Here's a little quote to keep your head up.

--Look well to this day. Yesterday is but a dream and tomorrow is only a vision. But today well lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well therefore to this day.
School is about more than your GPA. Yes, a high GPA is great, but they will also look at extracurricular activities, community involvement, leadership skills, etc. So, you still have a shot.

Also, a lot of schools don't require you to have a super high GPA to get into the school. Since you have access to the internet, check around at some of the school in your area. You should go to the "Undergraduate Admissions" link and check out the requirements. Based on those requirements listed and the requirements that you meet, you can decide whether you want to apply or not.

If you do not meet the requirements, all hope is not lost. Check for community colleges at well. I don't believe there are any requirements (outside of high school diploma or GED) to enroll, and you can also get financial aid (Pell Grant usually) to pay for your tuition and books. You can take your general education courses (math, english, science, history) and some other basic courses, and then transfer to a university or college usually in 2 years. So, you still have options.

I know it's hard, but don't give up. Once you take that first step, it's actually not as hard as it seems. Be sure to ask as many questions as you need to, even if you feel funny asking them. It's better to ask and be looked at funny (but get the answer you need) than to not ask and end up screwed over because of it.

Hope the info helped!
