My college GPA is only 2.7 what should I do?

Question:I'm going into my senior year of electrical engineering at a selective public university. It's a very difficult major. My GPA this year fell to a 2.7 overall, and I'm devastated. There is no way I'll be able to bring it up above the 3.00 mark next year with the difficulty of the courses I'll be taking and the limited amount of credits I have left. I know it needs to be over 3.00 to be able to get a good job.

So what should I do? I feel as if I screwed up badly. I'm terrible at studying and I hate homework, and I'm the king of procrastination. So it's not that the subjects are too difficult for me, it's just that I have a hard time putting forth the required effort.

So should I just try my hardest next year and graduate? Or should I go for a 5th year and take some easy courses to bring my GPA up?

Also, I'm going to be going for a MBA after I graduate. What do you put on your resume for GPA if you attend graduate school? Do you combine the two, list them separately?

Answers:
Your GPA gets you the first job, but what you DO in your first job gets you your CAREER.

Having said that: improving your BAD HABITS will serve you better than getting a 3.0. Because after you get the 3.0 and get a job - how would feel putting "Fired for procrastination and not staying current with technology" on the application for your SECOND (lower paying) job??

go for a 5th year and do more classes to get that GPA up. you'll be glad that you did. trust me. this is your future and you don't wanna screw up.
Your GPA does not go on your resume. Having said that.

I am 40 and going back to school, and it's tough.

My advice would be to try harder to get you stuff together now, or you will be sorry. You have to have an education to make a dime unless you are super ambitious, which you do not appear to be at this time.

Play now, and pay later, I speak from experience.
If a 5th year is an option, take it. Bring up your GPA you will need it for graduate school. Possibly retake some classes for a better grade.Take this time to learn how to study and work on your procrastination. I know its over simplifying, but seriously, graduate school is hard and is going to take the effort, you might as well get comfortable with it now. Your college probably offers a class or a seminar on studying, you could begin there.
two things you should do.

1) buckle down and get the job done. if you want a 3.00, then you need to work for it. having a good gpa is definitely worth the trouble.

2)take some easy classes. for example, i'm taking two aerobic class. they are each 1 unit. these easy classes will increase your gpa until you really buckle down on your major courses.
stop procrastinating first of all..
second you can take some summer coarse
You should do everything in your power to get good grades this year, and if you are willing, the fifth year might go a long way in helping your GPA, assuming you do well then, too.

I don't quite understand why you think your issue has nothing to do with study skills. Of course it does. You apparently have problems motivating yourself to put forth the required effort. This is where your university's learning services center comes in. Thing is, you need to be willing to accept their help and to actually follow their advice. Schedule a weekly appointment with an adviser in the department. You can request they keep tabs on your progress and provide you with methods to help you improve with time management, motivation and organization.

I did this (the weekly visits to Learning Services), and it helped me tremendously.

If you think eliminating the distractions from your work area will help, then remove them. Give away the video games, get rid of the TV, unplug your Internet connection if that's a distraction.
