Do you think I still have a chance to get into Georgia Tech?
Question:I will bee a junior in high school this upcoming year. My first semester of high school I started off well. But then my mom got really sick, and my grades suffered and i got some c's. I now have a 3.19 GPA. I am going to take several ap classes to pull it up for the rest of my high school career. But the best I can get is about a 3.597. Do you think I still have a chance to get in or will I have to go to another college and transfer. I want to major in Architecture and GT is the only true college in the state that covers that major. I really want to hear someone elses opinion or experiences.
Answers:
sounds like you had a tough time with your mom getting sick and everything...
im not sure whether or not you could get in, but many times colleges will look at situations such as yours with your mother if you let them know about it
so if you really want to go there, try writing a brilliant entrance essay about the time when your mother is sick
lots of colleges will understand
Yes, you do. Don't worry...this is NOT necessary. Parents worry, not KIDS. Just let the school know what has happened and even offer a note from the doctor. Alot of the times you kids think that everything is black and white. Well, it is NOT. Just pray about it and do the best that you can do. Explain your situation and talk to the GT administrators/adults. They will see that you are honest, bright and desiring a good education. They will not turn you away. How could they?? Also I highly commend you for staying beside your mother in HER time of need!! She, obviously, is raising a good son and I hope that she is well now and all is great.
Good Luck!
You might have a chance at getting into Tech. You should go ahead and contact their Admissions Office now to see what it will take to get in.
If you do not get in, another option is to start out at a two-year college such as Georgia Perimeter or Gordon College. These are public colleges. You can complete your first two years of college, which will be primarily the core curriculum anyway. At the end of the two years, you will have an Associate's Degree and a better shot at getting into Tech as a transfer student as long as you maintain a good GPA in college. If you complete the full two years, they will not even refer back to your high school info in evaluating your file for admission.
Good luck!
