Am I wasting time getting an AA within medical assisting if wanting to dance into nursing?

I currently just started doing my associate degree in medical assisting. I want to shift into nursing though, am I wasting my time & money doing the medical assisting? is doing the medical assisting going to help & benefit me ? I'm pretty confused in what to really do.
