Can someone who is not a parent homeschool a child?
Question:My sister is looking into alternatives to public school and I have thought about homeschooling my neices and nephews. Are only parents allowed to homeschool or can someone homeschool other peoples children? I live in Colorado. I don't know if the laws are different in different states.

In Colorado, the requirement is to be the parent, guardian or adult relative, so you would be able to homeschool your nieces and nephews.

Home schooling is generally done by the parents, or legal guardians who function as the children's primary teachers, however you could function as a tutor/helper.
If your sister decided to home school the children, she can surely enlists your help in doing so.
I don't know the laws in your state/municipality, but yes. The parent needs to be the one to homeschool, but there is absolutely NO problem with bringing in external help. Just so your sister knows she is the one who will be responsible for the education of her children.
I suggest you visit the HSLDA website (Home School Legal Defence of America) for more information. 1 tip... NEVER accept a government tax deduction for homeschooling!! It can be taken as a government funded institution and therefore subject to THEIR jurisdiction.

yeah if they lived with the child or they lived nearby, and it is allowed by the state, certainly.
Laws are different in every state. In my state only a parent or legal guardian can "officially" homeschool a child. But by officially the state mostly means that that person files the paperwork. After the parent personally makes the decision to homeschool, he or she can delegate the actual teaching responsibilities to someone else. Many homeschoolers do this for at least one subject. I believe it would be legal as long as the parent made the legal decision to homeschool, and then allowed you to tutor. The actual parent would be legally in control and responsible, you would just be helping out.
I would say if it is okay if the person younger than an adult had a good education!
