How can i explain why the sun is important to 5 year olds?

Question:i am including a summer intro..and i need to include why the sun is important. But i don't no how to explain it to 5 year olds.

Answers:
I tell my 3 year old this:

-it's where we get light from most of the day
-its light turns to heat to keep us warm
-it works with something in our skin to give us an important vitamin to keep us healthy
-it works with something in plant leaves to keep them green and healthy, and the plants breathe out the air that we need to breathe in

talk about how it makes things grow. flowers, trees, fruits & vegetables for us to eat. Also that all the animals that live outside need it to stay warm.
If there's no sun, it would be dark outside, thus kids are never allowed to go out and play. Hope this helps. :-)
well it keeps you healthy with vitamen c...umm thats all i got sry wait it is also bright and if there was no sun some kids would be afraid, cuz of the dark!...ok now thats all i got
Tell them with out the sun all living things on earth would die except for albino creatures found in caves.
you can try only, eventually they will understand
The sun heats the whole planet and it's rays provide vitamins for both us and all the plants to grow. Not to mention the light it gives.
Take him out to the park and point out all the trees and flowers, tell him that the sun gives the plants 'food' and if they didn't have the sun, there wouldn't be any flowers. Also plant some vegs. and watch them grow. Let him know the same thing that with out sun we wouldn't have food.
all things living will die without it - bottom line!
1. Just switch the light off in the room and they'll see how the sun is important.

2. they will be interested too if you have models of planets revolving around the sun.
why don't you say that it keeps everything living alive.Or that they wouldn't be able to go outside to go and play if there was no sun!
Here is how the sun part of your lesson should go:
Hello kids lets talk about the sun. What does the sun do?(the answer should be something like it makes light). Now we need the sun and the light it makes. WHY, because our body has lots of parts these parts needs lots of things to grow big and strong. One thing is the light the sun it makes has it has vitamin like the ones you eat in the light it makes. The viamin is called, vitamin c like the letter c. Your body needs many vitamins just like vitamin c. That is why the sun is so important. It also makes things grow other than your body such as flowers.
GOOD LUCK!
I would start thinking about all the ways yoiu could incorprate the sun into your classroom. Art project = have the sun bleach out some construction paper with legos in a pattern, then discuss how the color on the paper is different and the sun did the bleaching, then tell them about the suns vitamins and oranges, and then sing songs about the sun and read stories about the sun and finally have a water play day and talk about the great use of sunscreen.
kids this age like to do and see for themselves. " b/c it is" may or may not get thru. i would make a nice experiment out of it. have the class plant a few different plants that grow fast, like herbs or flowers, and put some in sunlight and some in the shade... it might turn into a week/few weeks long lesson that you keep going back to. meanwhile you can use other examples, like how the sun evaporates water which then makes clouds and rain (this can be shown by putting a glass of water outside early in the day and then checking the level throughout the day, and it can also lead to why water is important...) another way too (that isn't a SUPER important but the kids might think so) is that it allows us to see the different colors (by providing light) and you can show this by turn on and off lights, or even bring a prism and show how putting light thru shows all the colors of the rainbow which leads to tons of crafts! hope it helps!! (and isn't too overwhelming)
Talk about how the sun helps things grow.if you have time grow plats in the sun and some in a dark closet.grow grass seed it grows quickly.

You can show how the sun is good for heat...take a box and cover it with foil on the inside...then put it in the sun.put some marsh mellows inside on sticks and show the kids how it cooks them.or take a bowl of ice cubes and show how the sun melts it...this is from the heat tell them.

Show how we use it for light. showing how at night or inside we need lights but outside we have the sun...you can also look for solar power experiments...usually you can find them on line..
If there is no sun, it would be night all the time. The sun is not only light, but makes flowers grow. Buy a small plant and let the children watch it as it grows - every day you can say something about the sun in reference to the flower.
we need it for light
I have also seen the sun tied in to teaching about "one", then discussing what it means to be unique.
