WHY IS FREDERICK NOT SURE WHEN HE WAS BORN?

Answers:
Frederick Douglass? because he never knew his mother (well, only met her a few times..) and slaveowners often didn't allow their slaves to know what the date was.. he could only guess within a year of when he might have been born.
I have no idea. I don't know him.
Frederick Yodey Oyinbogo?
Don't mind him - he is sure
Because people aren't born knowing it's their *birth*day..
So unless someone who knew him was absolutely sure of his birthdate, he wouldn't have a clue.
From what I understand, he was taken off his mother shortly after birth, and raised by other people - possibly as a "member" of his father's household. Not that he was ever acknowledged as a son.
So people around may have remembered that he was born at a certain time of year, but the exact date would have been forgotten. I think he *chose* Feb. 14 - because it was right in the middle of the month he was told he was born in.

Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey, who later became known as Frederick Douglass, was born a slave in Talbot County, Maryland, near Hillsboro. He was separated from his mother, Harriet Bailey, when he was still an infant. She died when Douglass was about 7. The identity of Douglass' father is obscure: Douglass originally stated that his father was a white man. perhaps his owner, Aaron Anthony; but he later said he knew nothing of his father's identity.
