What does "I feel for you" mean?

Question:when someone is sad some ppl say, "I feel for you"...
what does it mean actually?

That they empathize with the person.
I sympathize.
that they feel sorry for you, like you know they share your pain
It means I empathize, or feel badly for your situation.
It means that I emphasize with you, you feel sorry for, you understand what one is going through
it means they feel sorry for you, or they are sad that something bad is happening to you, theyre trying to be nice hehe :)
I THINK THE PHRASE MEANS THE OTHER PERSON FEELS A CONNECTION IN SOME WAY. THEY CAN RELATE TO THE ACTUAL FEELING OR FEELINGS AND THE PERSONS SITUATION . HOPE THAT HELPS! KIM
They feel another person's pain out of respect,sympathy,or their own experiences that may have been similar to the person going through the sadness or pain of sorts during that point in time.As to say they can relate to what that person is feeling or going through.
